Rehearsals: We meet every Tuesday evening from 7 PM to 9 PM. We have one dress rehearsal, usually on the Sunday afternoon preceding the Tuesday evening concert.
Concerts: We traditionally have two concerts a year, one at Christmas, and one in the spring.
Concerts are typically held on a Tuesday evening.
What part should I sing? If you are unsure as to what part you sing, the director, Christopher Lane, will listen to your voice (in private!) and evaluate the correct section for you.
Attendance: We require attendance at every rehearsal, unless you are ill or away. If you know that you are going to be away for more than a few weeks, you will need to chat about this with Christopher. Choristers need to be committed to the continuity of weekly attendance, since we are in the process of learning new work, and it is an additive (fun!) process.
In the case of an unexpected absence from a rehearsal, the chorister is expected to email carletonchoristers@gmail.com before the rehearsal.
Rehearsals are available through YouTube (the link is emailed just before the rehearsal begins) so you can follow along if you are home, ill or away. If you feel at all unwell (sniffles, sore throat, etc,) please stay home and join the rehearsal on YouTube.
Home Practice: Choristers are expected to practice at home. Website links to the various selections are provided. The YouTube recording remains online for a few weeks for your home practice.
Concert Dress: Concert dress is black pants, socks and black top for men, black long skirt or pants, black panty hose or socks and black long sleeve top for women. Women are provided with scarves for both concerts.
Scent-free Policy: Please do not wear any scent to rehearsals or to a concert.
Music: All music is distributed with your assigned number. After a concert, please leave the music in the specified place.
Masks: Wearing of masks is up to the individual singer. However, the executive reserves the right to make masking mandatory if they feel it necessary.
Fees: Cost is $60 for the fall term (September to December) and $75 for the winter term (January to June). These costs are applied to hiring the artistic director and the accompanist, the practice and concert venues, purchasing of music, and other incidental expenses.
Executive: In addition to the Artistic Director and Accompanist, Carleton Choristers is run by a volunteer executive made up of singers from within the group. This group is elected annually by the membership and works to support the Artistic Team through concert planning and promotion and ensuring the Choristers runs seamlessly throughout the singing year.
